Cardhu Distillery
Whisky Rides
Cardhu (pronounced car-DOO) is Gaelic for 'Black Rock' and was the first distillery to be officially pioneered by two women - founded in 1811 by Helen Cumming and took over by Elizabeth Cummings in 1872. The two women refined the flavour and the character of the whisky that is drank today. The distillery is found near the village of Archiestown in Speyside and the water is drawn from the springs on Mannoch Hill. Three tours are available starting at just £6 for the basic 'Cardhu Distillery Tour' (40 minutes - includes a wee taste of Cardhu) through to the 'Guess Dhu Tour' (1 hour - including a whisky guessing game) and finally the 'Cardhu Collection Tour' (1 hour 15 minutes - which takes visitors on a journey through the whisky making process and a tasting of 6 single malts.) Distillery and gift shop open all year round.
